History

1997 – Foundation of the Institute in Heidelberg under the name of 'European Institute for International Affairs'.

From the outset, it has been the aim of the Institute to enable intellectual exchange between academia and the general public. Since its foundation, internal research projects have been accompanied by public lecture series and conferences mainly in Heidelberg, but also in neighbouring cities. These events have led to a number of book publications (→'Publikationen').

1998-1999 - New Ethical Challenges on the Brink of the 21st Century

1999 - International Conference: Wittgenstein and Metaphor

2000 - Symposium: Hermeneutics and the Boundaries of Language

2000-2001 - Lecture Series: Rationality and Irrationality in the Sciences, Heidelberg and Karlsruhe

2002 - Symposium: Performativity and Praxis, Darmstadt

2002-2003 - Lecture Series: The Crisis of the German University and the Future of the Humanities

2003 - Panel Discussion: International Law in Flux? The Impact of the Iraq War on the United Nations

2006 -   Survey of past projects and reformulation of the Institute's mission . Start of a new research project on translation.

2007- A general meeting agrees to rename the Institute as Institute for the Study of
Culture Heidelberg
. Workshop: 'Translations – Fissures of/in Communication'
